A Brief History About PASSAG
In line with the government's tertiary educational reform
programs, the country's polytechnics status where upgraded to tertiary
level awarding Higher National Diplomas (HND) which according to the governments
white paper is equivalent to a DEGREE.One of the courses which was introduced
into the polytechnic is PURCHASING AND SUPPLY MANAGEMENT which the government
found necessary to introduce,so as to bring professionalism into the function
and to train adequately, personnel to fill the middle level management
capacity of organizations so that through this globally emerging function, better
value for money spent will be achieved, thus, the 1993/94 academic year
saw the commencement of this course among others. With the commencement
of the course, there was the realisation of the need of the formation of
a students body which will serve as a mouthpiece to champion our course, thus
the pioneering students in consultation with the Ghana Institute of purchasing
and supply (GIPS) and the Ghana Supply Commission now Ghana Supply Company
formed the Purchasing and Supply Students Association (PASSA) in Accra
Polytechnic which was inaugurated on 26th July,1994 with the motto:"BEST
VALUE FOR MONEY SPENT" and the slogan:PASSAG - PROFESSIONALISM, PASSAG
- PROFITABILITY. With time, PASSA was formed in Takoradi and Kumasi Polytechnics
which are also offering the course. PASSA moved a step ahead when the
membership realised that there was the need for a national body that would
enjoin and champion the course of all three branches since we all had
common goals and problems. This led to formation of the Purchasing And
Supply Students Association Of Ghana (PASSAG),which was inaugurated, on
the 7th June 1996 to encompass the Accra, Kumasi and Takoradi branches
of PASSA. Today,PASSAG has been extended to Koforidua Polytechnic which
is also offering the course.
