Inaugural Address:
"Mr. Chairman, Invited Guests, Electoral Commissioner,
Colleague Executives, Fellow Students, I deem it a great honour
to address you this afternoon as the PASSAG President.
Before I go on, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate
everybody who in diverse ways made the electoral process a success.
Here I would like to mention the members of the electoral board,
outgone executives and all passarians especially third years who
took time off their busy schedules to cast their votes. Thank you.
This maiden speech is to outline the plan of action for the 2003/04
executive board while in office. The blueprint is as follows:
1.To Liaise with CIPS For Group Membership:
Mr. Chairman, the 2001/02 executives were able to register some
of us with the Institute of Supply Management based in the United
States, but you will all agree with me that in Ghana CIPS is more
recognised in terms of job placement and academic progression. In
a bid to improve on what they did, we are going to put measures
in place to acquire group membership for members who have fulfilled
their financial obligations to the association.
2.Association's Personalised Website:
Plans are far advanced to launch a personal website for the association.
The main importance of having a website of our own is to publicise
and create awareness of the association to the world and to make
information easily accessible to all members. Mr chair, in this
times of technological advancement, we as a group should not be
left behind.
3.Notice Board: We intend acquiring a
new notice board befitting the status of the association. A notice
board that can house all our results and other notices when released.
4.Open Door Policy: I want to assure
members on behalf of my executive team that we are going to take
suggestions, criticisms and advice from all and sundry since that
is the only way of knowing their grievances. In as much as we would
welcome constructive criticism, we will reject all criticisms based
on hear say. A suggestion box is going to be created next to the
notice board for feedback from members.
5.Amendment Of Constitution: Mr. Chairman,
in order to make the association more vibrant and dynamic, certain
clauses in the constitution needs to be studied critically since
hey have outlived their usefulness. We can only amend the constitution
with approval of members at a general council meeting. I will like
to use this opportunity to entreat all members present to make themselves
available for the next general council meeting to be held next semester
so that we can all deliberate on this pertinent issue.
6.Sponsorship Committee: The previous
executive failed woefully in their sponsorship drive for the association.
This can be attributed to the lukewarm attitude the showed to the
committee. We promise to reverse that trend and revive the committee.
7.Accountability: Mr. Chairman, most
members of the association including myself are dissatisfied with
the debt incurred by the association during the social trip organised
to ADA FOAH.Since the outgoing executives have failed to give us
a comprehensive report as to what really transpired, I together
with my team will institute an independent enquiry into the whole
issue to actually find out what went wrong. On this note if would
like to plead with the outgoing executives to make themselves available
anytime they are called upon to clarify issues.
Mr. Chairman, before we can achieve any of the above, we would
need the Support, prayers and contributions of all members. The
days of apathy and lukewarm attitude by members towards the association
should cease. Members should also make their financial contributions
as and when required of them.
Mr. Chairman, Invited Guests, Electoral Commissionner, Colleague
Executives, Fellow Students, before I take my seat I would like
to thank all of you present for your time and patience throughout
the whole program, God Bless you and have a productive vacation.
Good Afternoon."

2003
School was going on recess for the 2nd semester break. There was a lot
of excitement throughout the school. Third years were happy they will
be out of school, Second years were excited to be heading to third year
whiles the green horns were happy to be making way for new greens. That
was the level of excitement on campus then, but for a few passarians,
they had a different reason to be happy. They were the new officers to
be sworn steer the affairs of passage for the 2003/04 academic year. Anew
dawn was falling over the association. After two to three weeks of vetting,
campaigning and voting, it was finally time for the newly elect to take
office. Since there was no social activity for passarians to round off
the semester, members were anxiously expecting to take the opportunity
to “chill small”.
At 12noon when the program was to start, members and invited guests were
nowhere to be found, even the incoming executives were not around. “Is
this a case of the oft talked about African Punctuality”? A member
asked. At exactly 1pm, the outgoing and incoming executives plus the chairman,
Mr. Nyarko and invited guest, Mr. Prince Addo had taken their seats. The
MC for the program, Penny Oduro Sarpong (Escobar) set the program sailing
with an opening prayer by Andrew Quaye, who lost the vice presidential
seat narrowly to Papa Jerry. That done, the chairman was introduced by
Caroline Ackah, couldn’t she have stopped talking earlier? The chairman
responded adequately with the outgoing president, Mabel Woode giving her
welcome address thereafter. This set the tone for the program to roll.
Prince Ofosu Baakoh did a soul inspiring song to the admiration of the
audience and guest, if what he did was great then Susan Addo’s performance
was the bomb. She carried the whole audience with her.
The financial Secretary gave his speech, which was followed by the Electoral
Commissioner’s report. Now wasn’t Patricia Ntow looking gorgeous?
There was no audit report because the auditor’s hadn’t finished
with their work? They promised to furnish the association with the report
in the first semester. Then came the threat by the outgoing organizer
that he wasn’t going to hand over until his suspension letter had
been removed from the notice board. There was a lot of behind the scenes
negotiations between the new president, the outgoing president and the
organizer. The organizer finally saw reason and handed over. Then came
the handing over proper with the outgoing handing over files to the incoming
executives, after which the new executives took the oath of office. The
electoral commissioner and the out gone president then installed the new
president. The President then gave his speech, which touched on so many
issues; it was followed by the issuance of certificates to deserving students
of the association. Papa Ask Me Atiglah Emceed the show from now till
the end. Arnold did the association the association the honours by giving
the vote of thanks which was followed by the closing prayer by Andrew
Quaye, who has the assumed the “position” of passag chaplain.
Refreshments and photographs followed this. All in all it was a good program
though a large number of the student were absent yet the show went on
successfully. Mention must be made of the Ghafes President and Technical
Director for giving us their PA system free of charge, appreciation also
goes to David Ayisala, SRC President for the way he worked hard to allow
us use the facilities at the JCR. Thanks also to everyone who made the
show a success
The final funeral rights of Albert Korankye’s (sakato, PS 3) father
took place on the 30th August 2003 at Akyem. The executives and the members
sends their heartfelt condolences. The association will like to thank all
students who took time off their busy schedules to mourn with SAKATO at
the funeral.God bless you.
Condolences also goes to Francis Agyei who lost his father recently. Our
hearts go out to him.
SBMS Games/Coordinator ship |
The SBMS games took place in July 2003. Students from APHAS, PROMAGS, ASHMAS
and PASSAG took part in the games that took place on the school’s
football field and the basketball and volleyball courts. The disciplines
included football, volleyball, ludo and playing cards. Passag eventually
came out the highest winning the trophy at stake and a certificate. We are
looking to retaining the trophy. All the sportsmen who took part to ensure
our success are appreciated.
The coordinator ship of the School of Business and Management Studies comes
to Passag from ASHMAS this academic year. This implies that the association
will run the affairs of the SBMS for the 2003-04 year through its representative.Consultations
are ongoing for the right person to be chosen to coordinate the affairs.Names
that have come up include that of Nash Fynn,Arnold Tipong and Solomon Lartey. It
now lies at the doorstep of the president to make the final decision as
to who to represent the association. |
Saturday, 8th February 2003
As part of activities to mark Valentine’s Day, passag organised
a social mix to Ada Foah. The main idea was to socialize and probably
for the gnasher’s to take their chance. The number of students who
turned up was unprecedented. Students from almost all the other associations
on campus took part in this trip. Buses left campus at 7am taking two
hours to reach Ada. Although students failed to purchase tickets on time,
there was a mad rush for the tickets on the morning of the trip; this
led to an increase in the number of buses. During the journey itself there
was the usual JAMA singing in all the buses but the most outstanding one
was probably the one where old boys of Accra Academy and old students
of other schools sang against one another. The boys from Accra Aca eventually
ended up as victors. There was a brief stopover at a filling station where
students took the opportunity to fill their bags and pockets with all
sorts of goodies. But the big question, knows the purchasing power of
students, one wonders if they really bought those items. Looking at the
fact that there was only one shop attendant with over sixty students hovering
around her. Sources close to the shop speculate that the shop has been
closed down since. One of those student tricks. Huh?
At Ada, students bordered the ferry (the main attraction) and had a ride
on some portion of the Volta Lake. Students who got there earlier already
had gone round the Volta twice already. There was good music on the ferry
right from start point to finish line. Drinks was sold on the first floor
of the ferry by Richard Holm who constantly was caught arguing with fellow
students, maybe his temper needs to be worked on, this is just a suggestion
oo. Students disembarked on the Island at the estuary and it was more
like a big family party. Good neighbourliness was shown all around. Food
was given out to people who hadn’t even met before. More music and
drinks flowed, and what about the palm wine seller? Does she mix her drinks
with something else, just asking please. There were some misfortunes though
for some. Caroline Ackah lost her slippers and had to come to school barefooted
while Ababio Saabese didn’t take part in the fun because he was
asleep all the time on the other side of the island. Ha-ha…. What
about ironman, Antwi Danso, Gabby, Borketey and the rest who couldn’t
get their bearings properly because of all the mixtures? Was there a fight
on the way back to Accra?
Now the big question is; HOW COULD THE ASSOCIATION RUN A LOSS WITH THE
STUDENTS WHO TURNED UP FOR THE TRIP? That’s a question that has
not been answered? Paa Solo, Ayisala, Jason and Reichmann hope you are
listening. On the whole it was a good trip never to be forgotten with
so much to give. Are we going to have another trip to Ada?
